Chair’s Report 2008-2009[1]

This Chair’s report covers the period 1st April 2008 to 31 March 2009. 
 
2008-2009 has been a year of positive change for BLGBT. The charity started the year as Birmingham Pride Community Trust - with a part time co-ordinator – and has become Birmingham LGBT Community Trust – a charity funded by Capacity Builders with a full time worker including the Transgendered community in our remit.

Chair's Report for year ending 30 September 2007

Introduction

Take a look around and there's no denying that for many lesbians and gay men life has never been better. The equalising of the age of consent, the repeal of the insidious Section 28, which prohibited the 'promotion' of homosexuality in schools and the introduction of civil partnerships have given the gay community most of what we have been asking for during the past 20 years. Openly gay pop stars, television personalities and MPs add to our sense of acceptability whilst even The Sun appears to have got in on the act and become gay friendly.

Annual Report 2005

Director's Report for year ending 30 September 2005

The past 12 months have seen a period of considerable activity in which the Trust has broadened the membership of its board, raised its profile and achieved recognition as an organisation able to provide a voice for Birmingham 's Lesbian Gay and Bisexual communities.

The Trust organised two events this year, a Queer Question Time and an Are You Being Served community consultation initiative. The Queer Question Time held on 21 April included representatives from the main three political parties including Clare Short MP, Andrew Mitchell MP and Richard Brighton. The event provoked lively debate and a headline in The Evening Mail the following day.
